There is nothing more precocious and full of energy than a young foal, at the side of its mother. Most of the time, the mare will ignore the cavorting and bounding little thing, but occasionally she may have to remind it not to wander far from her powerful protection. On the other hand, at times the foal will pester her with too much attention, often in the form of playful nips or sharp little hoofs. This behaviour usually results in a swift bunt or a warning grab from mom.
