This is a scene from Algonquin Park in Ontario. I’m intigued by places such as this. Fast-flowing water is so interesting to me. I love the sound of rushing water. The mysterious shadows in the deep places, the rapid motion, and the bright white highlights in the froth. It’s a perfect subject to paint.

Pirate Bill Johnson is said to have hidden from the British in the waterline cave for which the island was named.
This is a typical view in the Thousand Islands region on the St. Lawrence River. I find the craggy rock and wind-blown pines create very interesting designs.

This old lighthouse stands on a rocky point of land at Cape Vincent, New York, directly across the mouth of the St. Lawerence River at the eastern end of Lake Ontario.

This stone arch marks the entrance to the inner harbour of Boldt’s Castle, built by George Boldt over a century ago. The castle was never completed, due to the sudden death of his beloved wife. The castle fell into disrepair, but a recent restoration to preserve this grand structure is underway.

I painted this picture on a beautiful, warm, sunny autumn day in Yarker, Ontario. It’s a typical setting on many waterways in southeastern Canada and the northeastern USA. The calm water, moved only by eddies and ripples, makes the abstract shapes and colours reflected on the surface a delight. The red canoe on the opposite shore caught my attention, reflecting the warm afternoon sun.
